On a lovely evening hosted by Whitchurch Cricket Club, Ivybridge Eagles won the U11B West Devon Palladium Youth League final, beating Lewdown by 48 runs.

Ivybridge won the toss and chose to bat first. The first pair found it hard to score runs off the bat, although some wayward bowling from Lewdown contributed 22 extras in the first four overs.

The second pair found it easier, with Connor Gibson batting well and top scoring for Ivybridge with nine, including two boundaries.

Lewdown took a wicket in the ninth over and when the final pair of Zach Dunn and Luca Turner came in to bat, the score was on 248.

Zach and Luca batted and ran intelligently, scoring four runs each.

Lewdown continued to bowl a number of extras and with a total of 64 conceded through the innings, Ivybridge finished on 273-2.

In Lewdown’s reply the Eagles got off to a flying start when Connor Gibson stumped Lewdown’s captain off the bowling of Will Stevenson.

Nevertheless, at the end of the sixth over Lewdown were ahead of Ivybridge by nine runs, but they soon lost their second wicket to Luca Turner.

Lewdown then lost wickets at regular intervals, with some great bowling from Evie Privett, taking two wickets with consecutive balls in the eighth over, a run out in the ninth over and a wicket maiden from Zach Dunn in the 11th over.

Having already lost six wickets when the final pair came in to bat, Ivybridge’s captain and player of the match Wilf Templar secured a further two wickets, finishing with 2-5.

Needing an improbable 44 runs to win from the final over, Lewdown had another run out to Ollie Garland before Maddie Turner took the 10th wicket for Ivybridge with the final ball of the innings.

With an outstanding all round team performance, Ivybridge Eagles retained the U11B West Devon Palladium Youth League and now move on to defend the cup, also against Lewdown on September 12.
