Ivybridge Bowling Club
After exceeding everyone’s expectations by reaching the semi-final of the Farley Trophy, Ivybridge’s progress came to an end at the hands of North Down on Tuesday.
Played on the Bridge Park green, the visitors quickly showed the gulf in class between the first and second divisions.
There was one highlight for the home side when the men’s captain Roland Lugger continued his unbeaten run of victories in the four wood singles by winning 21-16.
In the two wood singles Dave Taylor was drawing 12-12 after 17 ends, but his form ran out and he was defeated 13-21.
The pair of Chris Bufton and Grenville Barnett were well beaten 16-30 and in the triples formula Brian Harman, Larry Ireland and skip Eric Bennett were always behind and eventually lost 12-18.
The rink, played by Tony Plant, Paul Morgan and John Cann with skip Dave Crisp, were also on the receiving end and finished the evening 11-21 down.
On Thursday it was back to the Evening League for Ivybridge.
The visitors were the Tothill side. The Ivies got off to a great start and were 13 shots up after just five ends, but Tothill dug in and at the halfway point they had gone into a nine-shot lead.
By the end of the game the scores were 83-81 to Tothill.
Unfortunately for them, though, they played one man short on one rink and had to forfeit a quarter of that rink’s score.
With 7¼ shots deducted the game was won by Ivybridge 81-75¾. There were two winning rinks for Ivybridge.
Peter Bray, Paul Binyon and Chris Bufton skipped by Dave Crisp won 25-14 with Dave Bithell, Brian Harman and Roland Lugger skipped by Ken Kempthorne coming out on top 23-17.
Losing by 21-29 were Nick Randall, Paul Morgan and Larry Ireland skipped by Eric Bennett.
Completing the scores, Dave Moulder, Dave Fourte, Dave Taylor and skip Grenville Barnett went down 12 -15¾.
